C3 User Guide

Mono SMC

Description

The Mono SMC is an electric motor controller used in Mono Sun-Ray SRX solar

water pumping systems. When connected to the Observant system the SMC can

be monitored, started and stopped remotely.

Electrical connection

• The SMC is connected to the C3 using an isolating RS485/RS232

protocol converter (MNK)

• The isolation provided by the MNK eliminates any problems associated

with ground loops

• The standard C3 device cable (DTC) is 6 m in length, this may be

shortened if desired by re-wiring the terminal block end

• If a longer cable run is needed the 10 m device extension cable (DTE) can

be used

• Either RS485 port on the C3 may be used

• Figure 30 shows connection of the SMC to a C3 using Observant’s

standard 4-way device cables

Installation notes

• The SMC side connection from the MNK is a 60 cm tail

• The MNK is designed such that 25 mm electrical conduit joiners can be
