Electric pump control

Description

The digital outputs of the C3 can be used to control contactors associated with the

running of electric pumps (non-VSD systems). When combined with a feedback

mechanism described in subsequent sections a complete electric pump control

and monitoring system can be realised.

Electrical connection

• Electric motor contactors are typically controlled by high-voltage AC

supplies, these need to be controlled by the nominal 12 VDC output of

the C3

• A 12 VDC coil, 240 VAC contact relay such as the DIN rail mountable

Finder 22.21.9.012 SPST-NO relay is recommended for this purpose

• Figure 37 shows control wiring using two relays to emulate the signals

provided by two existing momentary push-buttons (one for start, one for

stop)

• Note in this case it is essential that the C3 be provided with auxiliary power

(usually from the available mains supply) to ensure the battery does not

become depleted from the draw associated with keeping the relay active

while the pump is running

Installation notes

• It is typical for the C3 and associated wiring to be housed within the same

switch-box as the electric pump contactor

• Both the C3 and relay(s) can be mounted on standard 25 mm DIN rail

• If mains power is available it is recommended to install a 12 VDC power

supply connected to the auxiliary power input of the C3
